LONDON METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

London Metropolitan University (London Met) is highly distinctive, both in its eclectic and representative community of students and staff, and in its inclusive learning environment. Everything undertaken by the university is underpinned by the philosophy that every student deserves a chance to transform their life through higher education. Its learning and teaching philosophy is positioned to advance social justice, enabling students to develop an understanding of different perspectives and to learn about London’s complex social challenges. The University enjoys a growing number of strong connections with innovative businesses, organisations and public sector institutions across London.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are the founding principles of London Met. The majority of students come from backgrounds that are typically underrepresented in higher education. More than 80% of students are mature learners, just under 60% are from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds, and there are over 140 different nationalities represented across the student body. Many students have complex lives, some experiencing extreme economic disadvantage.

London Met is now seeking to appoint four Independent Governors to fill vacancies on its Board. We welcome expressions of interest from individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds especially those who bring perspective and experience in one of the following areas: Academic Quality (Higher Education or Further Education), Finance, Anti-racism or Estates. Candidates should demonstrate experience of working at board level, preferably in a large complex organisation and/or with a high degree of regulation.  Appointees to the Board will need to be sympathetic to the University’s mission and values.

This is an opportunity to join the Board and play a part in shaping the future of this thriving University.
