For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.

One position is linked to the project AUTOSHIP and one position is linked to the project PREFERENCE. Both projects are partially funded by the Research Council of Norway and are in collaboration with other Norwegian partners. Big data, Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins and artificial intelligence (AI) represent key enablers of the digital transformation impacting several domains. The main objectives of the projects include the development and the integration of signal processing and machine learning methodologies aiming at decision support and system design.  Use cases for the project AUTOSHIP are related to autonomous navigation, while use cases for the project PREFERENCE are related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

The PhD candidates will have the opportunity to be affiliated with the IoT@NTNU and with the Norwegian Open AI lab, and to collaborate with research scientists from international partner institutions.

PhD Position N.1 – Data Fusion in Maritime IoT
The activities related to this position include: (i) exploring advanced solutions for distributed detection/estimation based on cooperative algorithms and data fusion; and (ii) defining a maritime IoT framework for enhanced situational awareness and decision support to autonomous navigation.

PhD Position N.2 – Transient Modeling and Uncertainty Analysis for Digital Twins of CCS Systems
The activities related to this position include: (i) time-series transient modeling and monitoring of start-up and shut-down filling process in CCS systems; and (ii) defining a simulated environment based on data-driven machine learning for water/CO2 transferability and full-scale design optimization.

Your immediate leader is the Head of Department.
