ABOUT THE ROLE 

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will support the Principal Investigator in delivery of research activity funded by the UK Space Agency as part of European Space Agency microgravity research platforms: (1) pre-/post-International Space Station (ISS) campaign and (2) artificial gravity bedrest campaign.  You will work with colleagues to support preparations and testing on these two research campaigns.  This will include developing and testing an appropriate laboratory setup using motion capture (optical cameras and inertial sensors) and electromyography equipment, with the aim to produce a portable system that can be travelled with for testing  at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre (Houston, USA), ESA’s European Astronaut Centre (Cologne, Germany) and the bedrest facility in Planica (Slovenia). 

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

 
ABOUT THE TEAM

This Research Project is being delivered within the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation. The Department is ranked 5th in the UK for research power (REF2021) and 13th for sport sciences in the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide League Tables (2023).
 

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a PhD (or soon to be qualified to doctoral level) and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge in the physiological and biomechanical assessment of human performance in simulated spaceflight environments.
