About the opportunity

We are currently seeking to appoint two Research Associates for Statistical Bioinformatics to work on single cell multi-omics and spatial omics project from the University of Sydney. The successful applicant will be working in the School of Mathematics and Statistics and Charles Perkins Centre under the supervision of Prof Jean Yang and in collaboration with other academics at the Sydney Precision Data Science Centre.

About you

  • experience with low level processing or performing initial data analysis on recent platforms of omics data such as next generation sequencing or mass spectrometry
  • superior computer programming or software development skills
  • high-dimension data analysis experience
  • demonstrated ability to conduct research / scholarly activities under limited supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • good communication skills (both written and oral).

Applicants who demonstrate the following desirable criteria will be highly regarded:

  • experience with statistical genetics, deep learning or statistical modelling with preference to experience in analysing high-dimensional regression models and variable selection
  • ability to assist researchers from other disciplines as well as work with PhD students within the statistics bioinformatics research group
  • good organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • strong general IT skills, including familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and HPC server.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
