Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering
The REAMIT project will adapt and apply existing innovative digital technologies (Big Data and the Internet of Things) to food supply chains in NWE to reduce food waste. Through testing and adaptation, these technologies will be utilised to monitor and record food quality along the supply chain and signal potential food quality issues. Through analytics, owners of 'food to be at risk of becoming waste' will be supported with decision making tools (e.g. Apps) to make a choice on how to minimise food waste including redistribution to nearby consumers.
This Post-doctoral Research Fellow role will focus on developing a real-time life cycle assessment model based on the REAMIT integrated IoT sensor and big data solutions. This research will develop a methodology to allow dynamic modelling of the supply chain, population of the life cycle inventory in real-time, and impact assessment of the dynamic scenarios integrate the environmental dimension in the decision support algorithm developed in REAMIT.
There will be a specific focus on interacting with industry partners during all stages of the project to best understand the supply chains and for real-time data collection. In addition, the successful candidate will carry out a comprehensive systematic review (mapping) of the technical and business landscape in the fresh produce food chain and will identify both the bottlenecks and potential solutions that can be used to drive future food quality analysis technology developments.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
Salary: 41,209 - 47,477 per annum
