Description

Applications are invited for a fully-funded Post-Doctoral Associate position in the Emergent Physics in Living Matter group led by Prof. Arjun Narayanan at New York University Abu Dhabi.

Using breakthrough experimental, image analysis, and theoretical approaches, pioneered by our group, we explore the dynamic self-organization of transient intracellular biomolecular structures, in order to address a series of outstanding questions in both cell biology, and in the statistical physics of living matter.

Our current research addresses questions in cortical self-organization, protein quality control, mechanochemical patterning and mechanobiology. However, we are happy to support new research directions using any combination of our major tools high resolution imaging, computational image analysis and the physics of complex systems

As our colleague, you will have significant intellectual freedom and support as you build your own independent research portfolio. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to build a strong global network of mentors through inclusion in multiple ongoing international collaborations with experts in theory and simulation (Dresden, Paris, Hyderabad), single molecule imaging and bio-photonics (Melbourne), and in biochemistry and soft matter physics (Bengaluru)

We are open to applicants with a PhD in any relevant discipline. The primary criterion for selection is an excitement to learn and use multidisciplinary skills, to frame and answer questions at the biology/physics interface. Direct experience with, or an interest in learning, the following skills is also useful:

  • High resolution fluorescence imaging, single molecule imaging and computational image analysis
  • Theory and analysis methods from the physics of complex systems
  • Mammalian cell culture, C. elegans and/or significant experience with other model organisms

For consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with full publication list, transcript and contact information for at least three references. Additionally, a research statement detailing their research experience, the career and learning goals they would like support in achieving, and the scientific questions they are currently most curious about, is also required. Applications submitted through Interfolio will only be considered. Informal inquiries may be directed to Arjun Narayanan: narayanan@nyu.edu

This position is not located in the United States and the applicant must be willing to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
