About the Role

This position will undertake epidemiological research, statistical and data science related activities for the project entitled Improving the safety of implantable medical devices, funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The position will develop programming code and methods of analysis for the trends, treatment patterns and adverse events associated with the use of implantable medical devices.

UniSA Allied Health and Human Performance is home to the Alliance for Research in Exercise, Nutrition and Activity (ARENA), a recognised research centre which investigates the role of exercise, nutrition and other lifestyle activities in improving clinical and health outcome and Innovation, Implementation & Clinical Translation in Health (IIMPACT), a research concentration, which focuses on persistent pain and breathlessness, rural health and stroke recovery.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide statistical analysis, analytical and methodological support and advice to senior researchers, and research and apply new methods through the exploration of large data sets
  • Undertake interrogation and analysis of large, diverse linked health datasets using statistical software such as R, python or SAS
  • Use machine learning techniques and Natural Language Processing to extract information from large databases
  • Contribute to the production and dissemination of a range of project and evaluation reports for review by appropriate parties
  • Communicate research findings at relevant national and international opportunities including conferences, universities and other related bodies 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A post graduate qualification (Level ARAS) or a PhD (Level BRF) in population health, epidemiology, statistics, informatics, data science or a relevant discipline
  • Advanced graduate-level coursework in statistical analysis or biostatistics, quantitative modelling, experimental design or survey research
  • High level experience in data analysis using statistical software such as R, python or SAS in large datasets
  • Demonstrated methodological expertise in undertaking analyses in a health related area
  • High level experience working with large and diverse datasets
