Opportunity

The Deputy Director of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute) will support the Institute’s Director in relation to the specific portfolios of research and engagement. We encourage applicants who may be interested to apply for one or both of the two portfolios.

You will provide executive leadership to the Institute under the direction of the Institute Director, and be responsible for research or engagement and lead one or two major strategic initiatives and/or key areas of acceleration., You will represent the Institute within the University, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and in discussions with State and federal governments, engage in philanthropic initiatives and attend all strategic meetings for the Institute and chair these when required.

About You

Your leadership and management style promotes a cooperative and collaborative culture, which will apply both within the Doherty Institute and with external bodies. Your networking and facilitation skills will enable the development and maintenance of strong links with joint venture partners, other stakeholders and broader infectious diseases, health and research communities. Your strong strategic planning, decision making and organisational skills will be essential to your success in this role.

You will possess;

  • A PhD (or equivalent qualification) and a distinguished international record in research in a field relevant to medical microbiology, infectious diseases and/or immunity.
  • High level skills and experience in microbiology, infectious disease and/or immunity research plus one or more of the following: 1) High quality research track record and research leadership in infectious disease, immunology, clinical research or public health; 2) Delivery of high quality clinical care and/or public health outcomes in the diagnosis and/or management of infectious diseases.
  • The ability to be an effective spokesperson for the Doherty Institute in national and international scientific and community fora.
