Job Description:

The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (SMDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Senior Lecturer (Education) in Simulation.  

This post will strengthen and enhance simulation-based education in SMDBS and across the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Life Sciences, maximising the opportunities provided in the KN Cheung SK Chin InterSim Centre, our new state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Teaching facility.  

The appointee will undertake significant teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; contribute to the design, organisation and delivery of simulation-based teaching activities; engage in scholarly activity; train staff, and affiliated teachers, in the techniques of effective simulation-based education and contribute to administration/outreach activity.  

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: 

  • Primary Healthcare Profession Degree.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area plus current registration with professional healthcare regulator; OR
  • PhD or other doctoral degree in relevant subject area.
  • Record of high-quality academic outputs relevant to simulation.
  • Success in obtaining external funding for development of teaching, learning or assessment in their discipline, and/or in teaching-related activities.
  • Collaboration in and/or support of significant projects in simulation related activities.
  • Substantial simulation-based teaching experience at University level.
  • Evidence of contribution to the successful delivery, enhancement and/or review of particular modules, which include simulation.
  • Experience of delivering high quality, innovative, teaching as evidenced by positive feedback received from students, colleagues and external examiners.
  • Contribution to a wide range of administrative tasks at a strategic level.
  • Evidence of academic leadership, including managing professional teams, leading initiatives, chairing/participation in committees, contributing to strategy, participating and managing relevant aspects of clinical governance, audit and standards of care.

Although this is a full time post, we would also consider appointing two part time employees.
