The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare (CNMH) is a major provider of education in London and Berkshire, delivering high quality, student focused and dynamic courses, making use of an innovative curriculum and simulation. We have one of the highest graduate employability rates in the UK and high levels of student satisfaction for CNMH courses.

The UWL pre-registration BMidwifery, Midwife Degree Apprenticeship, MMidwifery (3 year), and MMidwifery (2 year shortened) course curriculums have all been approved against the NMC (2019) Standards for pre-registration midwifery. We have a wide portfolio of postgraduate courses and continuing professional development opportunities, including doctoral level study. UWL midwifery courses have been awarded WHO/UNICEF Breastfeeding Initiative Gold accreditation. 

The Richard Wells Research Centre based at the University of West London, conducts an active programme of research focusing on improving patient safety. The Centre conducts primary research, undertakes guideline development and review, and through its work as an internationally accredited centre for evidence-based practice, carries out comprehensive systematic reviews. 

The Role 

The Associate Professor of Midwifery will fulfil an academic teaching role with a focus on establishing collaborative midwifery, maternal and family centred research and service improvement partnerships with academic, clinical, voluntary sector and commercial partners.  Midwifery focused research income generation and demonstration of impact through knowledge exchange and employer engagement initiatives are key performance indicators for the role.

The post holder will also contribute to the design, development, and delivery of a range of high-quality and innovative programmes of study at various levels and contribute to the review and development of teaching and learning policy, plans and strategies. This will include supporting students in both academic settings and clinical practice, to ensure professional body regulations and university requirements are met. Teaching and learning activities make up 50% of the role which will include the role of personal tutor, module leader, link teacher and academic assessor. 

The Person

Applicants should have a current understanding of key issues pertaining to midwifery practice and maternal and family health. They will have a keen interest in and the required skills to lead the professional, academic and scholarly development of midwifery, maternal and family health research, service improvement and education within the College and the University.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with students, academics, and support and technical staff. This will also include working with a range of partners including the NHS, Independent, Voluntary and Private sector.
