The Department
We are looking to appoint a high-quality, intellectually curious, and collegial individual who can contribute to excellence in research, teaching and citizenship. We seek to appoint someone who wants to join a multi-disciplinary research and teaching community and fits and adds to our research strategy that is concerned with producing world-leading and world-changing research that makes progress toward tackling inequalities, promoting social justice and ensuring better health and wellbeing within and through sport, exercise and physical activity. Key to this, is an interdisciplinary and impact outlook through which to lead a department of colleagues working across traditional and non-traditional sport and exercise science areas.
Here at Durham, we deliver sport and exercise sciences, but unbound from traditional discipline silos and ways of thinking. For us, this is a key strength. We seek a talented individual that fits and adds to either of our research themes, 'Sporting Lives: Transforming Sport, Transforming Lives' and 'Healthier Communities: Moving, Growing, and Thriving'. The successful applicant will contribute to the Department's taught programmes, which are ranked in the Top 10 best sport-related degrees in the country. They will participate in the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students at an appropriate level. They will also be required to be an excellent citizen by successfully contributing to the leadership, administration and management of the Department.
This post offers a unique opportunity to make an active and meaningful contribution to the strategic development of a recently established department. This post provides the opportunity to conduct internationally excellent research and teaching within a highly collegiate department that is already recognised among the world's best, as shown by our World Top 100 position in the QS World University Rankings for Sports Related Subjects in 2020 and Top 10 REF2021 ranking.
