Job Details

Applications are invited for a Specified Purpose (estimated until 31 October 2027) post of a UCD Agile Deputy Director within UCD Agile.

UCD Agile is an operational excellence unit supporting the working of UCD in three broad areas - business transformation, operations management and improvement, and capability development in these two areas. This remit is being extended to include the centre of excellence for the Programme for Operations and Services Transformation (POST). Through this extension, UCD Agile will a be source of direct assistance for those pursuing operational excellence, as well as through the existing modes of support - advice, guidance, training, mentoring.

UCD Agile is the active sponsor of the University's Work Smarter Together community of practice, an important support for the collaboration and creativity we see across the community of staff and faculty who support our teaching, research and scholarship. UCD Agile will support the university community in making UCD a better place to teach, research, work and learn. Its focus is on the University's support and operations ecosystem with the focusing question underpinning UCD Agile's work being "how do we make the best use of our resources to the best effect?" `Best effect' relates to the value our work delivers to its intended beneficiaries, to how it enables our reaching our strategic objectives, and to how we ensure a sustainable University in doing this. `Best use' relates to efficiency (doing things right) and effectiveness (doing the right things). `Our resources' are our people, their time, their creativity and dedication, as well the financial and environmental inputs we configure and use in delivering the support ecosystem.

The Deputy Director works at the same level as the Director of Agile in most regards, forming a team of two which, together and individually, initiate, develop and deliver UCD Agile's offering, demanding of the Deputy the capacity to operate at the highest levels in the University and the flexibility to bring their skills to bear directly on the frontline. The Deputy Director will develop and lead projects at various scales, including University scale strategic projects reporting the UMT and Presidential level, as well as Unit Head/Director level.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for identifying, and on-boarding, such new capabilities, skills and solutions as the unfolding needs of the University demand e.g. in the context of delivering digital transformation. The Deputy Director will act as a strategic resource to the Units, Colleges and Schools of the University, will develop and lead the delivery of Agile's capability development and training offering, and will ensure the effective delivery of the full spectrum of Agile's supports and services.

To be successful in this role, the Deputy Director must have the innovation, independence and vision to create in shaping the evolution of UCD's support ecosystem, to imagine what might be, and to lead. UCD Agile continues to develop and evolve over time and the post holder will take a lead role in shaping that evolution and development of the unit, its staff and their capabilities.
