About Southampton Business School

Southampton Business School (SBS) is placed at the centre of the University of Southampton, a top 100 University in the world, ranked 78th (QS), and a founder member of the UK Russell Group University. SBS hosts a vibrant and diverse community of scholars and students. It has grown substantially in breadth and size in the recent years, covering all core business and management disciplines via six Departments: Accounting, Banking and Finance, Decision Analytics and Risk, Digital and Data-Driven Marketing, Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour, and Strategy Innovation and Entrepreneurship. About the Department of Decision Analytics and Risk

The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk is a leading authority in operations, behavioural operations, management science, risk, and analytics, realised and delivered through research, education, and enterprise. Our strengths have been recognised by QS being in the Top 50 Universities in terms of Operational Research and Statistics in the world and top 10 in the UK. 

The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk is one of the oldest departments in the Business School and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Department has contributed with four impact cases towards the Research and Excellence Framework 2021, this is 50% of all impact cases submitted by the Southampton Business Schools. The Southampton Business School was ranked 14th in the United Kingdom for Research Impact, with 64% of the impact cases ranked as world leading and 28% of the impact cases raked as internationally excellent.[LC1]  The Department’s vision is to be a thought leader in innovations that have significant impact on organisations and society in the areas of operations, risk, analytics and management science. Our department is committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, highly interdisciplinary, collegial, and determined to apply our research, with the global aim of making our society more sustainable.  The Department consists of more than 40 members with a successful track in research funding and enterprise engagement, publications in top international journals and active scholarship. The Department runs six Postgraduate Teaching programmes and one Undergraduate programme. The postgraduate programmes’ portfolio includes Master of Science in operations, management science, risk, and analytics. In addition, the department runs the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Analytics. The Department aims to develop business leaders and business analysts with the competence and character to make a real difference to the society and to be active citizens in our community. About you

As Professor you will play a central role in leading the research agenda in Operations Management. You will bring to the role a strong professional reputation, including a sustained record of world leading research and thought leadership, through a sustained publication record in world leading international academic journals. You will have experience in leading major funding bids, setting up and managing the resources needed to deliver the research plan. You will act as a leader and ambassador for us across management, knowledge exchange/ enterprise or other engagement activities.

You will be an experienced educator with proven track record of high-quality teaching, able to lead in the development of education policy and practice and able to design and develop courses and programmes at all level (UG, MSc and MBA Level). You will be an experienced researcher able to supervise doctoral students (PhD and DBA programmes).

You will have a strong research vision and leadership skills. Your leadership skills will be evident, whether through your research, education or having held a leadership role.  You will have proved your ability to innovate and engage to inspire students and colleagues alike, helping to build a strong academic community. 

You will play a leading role in the implementation of the strategy of the Southampton Business School and   Department of Decision Analytics & Risk strategy. We expect you to make strong leadership contributions towards the implementation of the University of Southampton Triple Helix approach (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/about/strategy/triple-helix). You are expected to lead others in the implementation of this strategy. 

The successful candidate will play a role in the leadership of the Operations Projects Purchasing & Supply (OPPS) group within the Department of Decision Analytics and Risk. OPPS strength is its focus on sustainability, operations, supply chain and project management using a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches.
