About the opportunity

The Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics within the School of Public Health is seeking to appoint a distinguished academic as a Professor or Associate Professor (or Professor/Associate Professor of Practice) (D/E) in Health Policy and Systems to join a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to research and teaching programs. The position requires a highly motivated individual who is passionate about improving health outcomes through research and education for better health policy and health systems planning and implementation.

They will lead a program of research in an area of importance to the Centre and contribute teaching into both undergraduate and post-graduate programs and HDR student supervision.

The successful applicant will be expected to mentor staff within the Centre and build a collaborative team of research students and post-doctoral staff. This continuing position will be based in the Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics (MCHPE). The MCHPE is a Faculty of Medicine and Health impact centre conducting health policy and economics research, analysis, advice and education. As a leading centre in health policy and economics in Australia, the MCHPE focuses on improving health outcomes through policy innovation and the practicalities of implementation. The Centre has a particular interest in the policy conundrums posed by the growing challenge of chronic illness. The Centre has strong links to NSW state and national health departments and with public and private provider organizations.

About you

The successful candidate will be a leading authority within their area of expertise and have an international reputation for excellence. The candidate will be expected to maintain reputation by actively contributing to research and scholarship, academic debate, policy development, and innovation within the University and the broader community.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent qualification and expertise in one or more areas of health financing, comparative health systems, health systems improvement, health policy and planning, political science of health and political economy. The candidate will have a research profile that includes competitive research grants, publications, and evidence of recognition within the research community as a whole, and/or significant expertise in the practice of health policy. Experience in people management and leadership in the higher education sector, or in government, will demonstrate the ability to supervise and/or mentor others to success. Policy practitioner experience in or with government is desirable.

Applicants with leading policy experience without higher research qualification may also be considered for Professor or Associate Professor of Practice.

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
