Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science

This project is part of a larger Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) funded programme "BioCrop" involving UCD, NUI Galway, TCD, Teagasc and industry partners. BioCrop aims to develop and test new and existing biobased products for Barley production. Increasing EU regulations on fertiliser use and the application of currently available plant protection products require the need to seek and validate effective alternatives.

This position will be responsible for the identification and characterisation of antimicrobials from different endophytic fungi. Such secreted fungal peptides and compounds can act as elicitors, activating the plant defence response and/or in some cases are directly antimicrobial. There will also be occasional field work. In addition, the position will involve regular interaction and communication of aims and results and of the wider project to stakeholders and partners.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
