Are you looking for a role where you feel your contribution really matters? Would you like to be part of an organisation that makes lasting change? Then join us as a Research Manager!

Who are we?

NETSCC is an National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Coordinating Centre, hosted within the School of Healthcare, Enterprise and Innovation.  As part of the NIHR we help to fund, enable and deliver world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and services. It provides those working in the NHS, public health, global health and social care with the evidence they need to better support patients, the public and people who need care.

What will you do?

Research Management is an interesting and varied role, and includes:

  • Management and delivery of a portfolio of work.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships at all levels, including with public and patients.
  • Prioritising your workload and leading on improvements to working practices.
  • Rationalising and communicating complex problems/issues and taking or recommending appropriate action.
  • Depending on team there may be some line management duties.
  • Please note you will not be undertaking research yourself; this is a research management role where you will oversee a stage of research.

We have research managers overseeing the whole lifecycle of the research process. To find out more about the specific work of each team, please read the attached ‘NETSCC Team Guide’.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for passionate individuals who are hard-working, dedicated, and flexible in their approach. Key skills required are:

  • Understanding the health research landscape, with knowledge and experience of a relevant research management activity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to critically appraise research evidence and data.
  • Excellent writing, analytical and critical appraisal skills.
  • Able to understand and interpret complex medical and scientific literature.

What can we offer you?

We know that our staff are at the heart of what we do, and our staff wellbeing is so important to us. This commitment is reflected in having been awarded Gold for the third year in a row in MIND’s Workplace Wellbeing Index even coming 3rd out of 119 organisations! We also know that the world of work has changed and so we are open to flexible working arrangements and work in a hybrid way with staff expected to attend our Chilworth offices around 20% of the time.

In addition to a welcoming, positive, and flexible work environment there are many other benefits, including:

  • Generous Holiday allowance of 30 days holiday + 8 Bank Holidays + 6 University Closure days.
  • Excellent Family Friendly policies.
  • Excellent career development and training opportunities.
  • Generous Pension Scheme.
