Role Description

The British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is a high-performing charity and professional membership body, based at Cranfield University. Its mission is to secure the future of soils by promoting an enhanced understanding of the critical importance of soils in delivering the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing first class secretarial and administrative support as required to ensure efficiency, professionalism and high standards of customer service.

You will be the first point of contact for most members and stakeholders contacting the society and will be required to proactively manage our accounts, stakeholder database, membership and grant applications, and other queries submitted to the office. You will provide secretarial support to the Executive Officer and work closely with the other members of the small team, to ensure the Society’s business as usual activities take place in an efficient and effective way.

About You

With proven administrative and bookkeeping experience, you will be the first point of contact for individuals contacting the Society.

You will have strong attention to detail and have a good understanding of bookkeeping and be confident liaising with suppliers and payees.

You will provide stakeholders contacting the Society with a professional image; providing them with the advice and support they need and feeling comfortable dealing with professionals at all levels and stages in their career.

You enjoy collating information and feel confident tracking and managing various applications into the Society. You will feel confident working as part of a team and identify opportunities which other colleagues may be able to utilise to promote the Society’s activities.

You will support the team by ensuring the office is in good working order and has the right equipment available, and provide secretarial support as required.

There will be a requirement to support the delivery of the Society’s meeting, events and training courses and to occasionally attend UK-based events, throughout the year.
