Job Description:

The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is seeking to appoint two Lecturers in Manufacturing to join our vibrant team and drive development of technologies which have real impact on our economy. We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in digital twins for manufacturing processes; smart design for manufacturing; manufacturing simulation technologies; machine learning for manufacturing applications; robotics for manufacturing; smart sustainable manufacturing & production systems. The post holders will be able to engage with our exciting Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre initiative, part of £1bn co-investment through the Belfast Regional City Deal which will see the delivery of a state-of-the-art Factory of the Future facility.

The successful candidates will shape our future undergraduate and postgraduate curriculums across our Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and/or Product Design Engineering programmes, and contribute to interdisciplinary activity across the breadth of the University portfolio within their area of competence.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: 

  • Honours Degree or Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or closely related Engineering subject.
  • Hold a PhD in a relevant research field.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years’ postdoctoral research experience in relevant area.
  • Research interests relevant to (but not limited to) digital twins for manufacturing processes; smart design for manufacturing; machine learning for manufacturing applications; manufacturing simulation technologies; robotics for manufacturing; sustainable manufacturing; smart sustainable manufacturing & production systems.
  • Research interests that are sustainable and which complement or enhance existing activities within the school.
  • Relevant experience of tutoring and demonstrating at university level.
  • Possesses sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge to teach at undergraduate and or/postgraduate levels across the school at UG/PGT levels, aligned with your own area of specialism.
