The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is a global university with an outstanding reputation for producing highly skilled graduates and world-leading research. As one of the UK’s largest universities, with a staff and student community approaching 38,000, UCLan is Lancashire’s largest provider of graduate level qualifications.

The University’s School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences has an impressive and longstanding reputation for exceptional teaching and research. It offers a broad portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses taught by internationally recognised, research-active scientists and biomedical scientists. Key areas of research expertise include drugs of addiction, nanotechnology, neuroscience, and personalised medicine. The School provides students with real-world learning experiences inside state-of-the-art facilities which reflect the environments they can expect to encounter in their careers, whether within professional science or healthcare.

The University’s academic leadership has recently been reconfigured to ensure that leaders within each School now report directly to the Vice-Chancellor’s Group and are directly accountable for delivering improvements in the student experience, recruitment activity and graduate outcomes of their School. The new Dean of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences will help to sustain the high quality of the School’s undergraduate provision, build on its research strengths and expand its postgraduate offer. Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent higher research degree. They will bring people-centred leadership and communication skills, enjoy building strategic relationships and be committed to providing a student experience that is second to none. With an excellent track record within their own field of research, candidates will have the confidence and credibility to lead the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and inspire its diverse academic community.

Company

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in Preston in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge.  Since those early days it has transitioned into one of the UK’s leading, modern universities with a student body comprising some 120 nations and an overall learning community approaching 38,000.

Throughout its development ‘Ex solo ad solem’, or in translation, ‘From the Earth to the Sun’, has been its motto – helping talented people from all walks of life to make the most of their potential. Staff at UCLan pride themselves on putting the needs of students at the centre of everything they do and in 2014 this shared core value was highlighted when the University achieved IIP Gold status.

In 2015 the Centre for World University Rankings placed UCLan in the top 3.8 percent of all worldwide universities and over the coming years UCLan’s £200 million Campus Masterplan development will create a truly world-class educational environment that will propel the University to new levels of excellence.
