Applications are invited for a 24 months post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
Additive Manufacturing technology accelerates design freedom crucial for the realisation of next generation patient specific biodegradable implants. This Post-doctoral fellow will be part of the team working on the development of novel biodegradable magnesium-based implants processed via low temperature additive manufacturing technology. The post-doctoral fellow will join a vibrant team of researchers with complementary backgrounds in metallurgy, polymer processing, medical device design and clinical translation.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
- Develop and process novel carrier polymers for Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) of magnesium parts
- Designing craniomaxillofacial implants to be processed via FDM
- Conduct (in-vitro) biodegradation experiments on magnesium-based implants
- Assessment of health & safety aspects of physical experiments and protocols
Salary: 41,209 - 47,477 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
