Salary is in the range £37,467 (Grade 7) to £53,939 (Grade 8) per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Appointment at a higher grade (8) may be made for candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills and experience relevant to the role).

Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in Low Temperature Physics in the Department of Physics. The appointment will be dependent on experience.

This is a post to work on the joint research activities within the framework of the European microkelvin platform, funded via Horizon 2020.  Including JRA1: Enhancing Milli and Microkelvin Access and the Advance to the Nanokelvin Regime; JRA2: Establishing New Thermometry Standards for Milli- and Microkelvin Temperatures; JRA3: Exploiting Quantum Technology to Provide Ultrasensitive Measurement Capacity; JRA4: Advancing Nanoscience Capabilities at Ultralow Temperatures; JRA5: Enabling Technology for Probing Quantum Materials at the Lowest Temperatures.

We are particularly interested in recruiting someone with expertise in superconducting quantum devices and/or strongly correlated quantum materials to exploit recent ground-breaking advances made in London Low Temperature Laboratory in collaboration with National Physical Laboratory and Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics or a closely related area, as well as experience in measurements at low temperatures in one of the following areas: (i) using microwave technology or cryogenic electronics particularly for the study of superconducting devices (ii) research on strongly correlated quantum materials, in particular strongly correlated electron systems, at ultralow temperatures.

This is a full time post, for a fixed term period of 12 months at Royal Holloway, University of London, with the possibility of extension. This post is based in Egham, Surrey where Royal Holloway, University of London is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
