Short Description

The College of Interdisciplinary & Experiential Learning in the SUSS is seeking qualified research staff to participate in a study of teaching staff’s perspectives about students’ English proficiency. The intent of the project is to understand teaching staff’s perceptions about students’ academic English and its impact on their university studies, with the view to apply the findings to better develop the EP programme in the university to benefit students. Specifically, the proposed research intends to explore what teaching staff perceive about students’ academic English, their students’ weaknesses when it comes to their abilities in academic English, how much, what type, and to what extent the importance of competent English proficiency impacts students’ grades in their courses. The project is scheduled to run for two years.

Job Description

  • To conduct literature research on topics related to the research project
  • To be involved in all matters related to data collection for the research project (e.g. recruitment of participants, set-up and maintain database, distribute questionnaires, conduct interviews with participants, etc.)
  • To transcribe audio recording from interviews
  • To conduct basic analysis on data collected
  • To manage all administration matters related to the project (e.g. progress reports, final report, budget management, financial reports, etc.)

Job Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education or any related disciplines; a master degree is preferred
  • At least some experience with research projects (e.g. applied projects, capstone projects, etc.)
  • Able to do content/thematic analysis of qualitative data (e.g. interview data)
  • Detail-oriented to manage all the related matters about the research project
  • Advantageous to have some educational research background
