We are recruiting for an Apprentice Chemistry Laboratory Technician to join our organisation. You will be working within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey. You will be supporting our academic and research staff with a range of laboratory duties, general administrative tasks and scientific research. To undertake a work-based training programme, and work towards a National Vocational Qualification in Laboratory Associated Techniques and a academic qualification depending upon entry qualifications.

The role is working Monday to Friday 37 hours per week. You will be studying towards either a two-year programme aligned with the Institute for Apprenticeships Laboratory Technician Level 3 standard, during which you will complete a level 3 qualification in Applied Science, or a five-year programme for level 6 apprenticeship, during which you will complete a Degree in Chemistry. The successful candidate will have qualifications that meet the entry requirements for either the level 3 or level 6 apprenticeship. This role offers a starting salary of £19,863, therefore offers the opportunity to earn whilst you learn.

The University of Surrey signed the Technician Commitment led by the Science Council, to ensure greater visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians across all disciplines. This position will provide opportunities to work alongside an experienced technical team, attend research seminars and build professional contacts across the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

The academic element of the apprenticeship will start in September 2023, but we are happy for the successful candidate to start before this date if they meet the entry requirements.
