Postdoctoral Fellow (two year, fixed-term contract)

Integrating nutrition and absolute sustainability in life cycle assessment of New Zealand dairy systems.

The School of Agriculture and Environment, Massey University, is seeking applicants to apply for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow - Life Cycle Assessment. This position is for a two-year, fixed-term to work on a project that brings together two recent innovative research agendas that have emerged in LCA of food systems. One is nutritional Life Cycle Assessment (nLCA) and the other is absolute environmental sustainability assessment based on LCA. The aim is to investigate how they can be integrated to provide insights to inform the strategic priorities of the New Zealand dairy sector.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based at Massey University's School of Agriculture and Environment, Palmerston North. The Scientist will also interact with the Riddet Institute (a New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence) and the Fonterra Research and Development Centre. The project is funded by Fonterra Ltd.

A PhD in environmental science, engineering, technology, and/or agriculture, and experience in use of life cycle assessment is essential. The suitable applicant will be an independent thinker who can provide future thought leadership. Experience in the use of life cycle assessment and/or environmental foot printing of supply chains is essential, and experience in the life cycle assessment of food systems is desirable. The successful applicant will have a proven track-record in publishing in high-quality international journals and they will use state-of-the-art scientific methodology for all research, focusing on quantitative systems-based modelling of both environmental and nutritional aspects, and following rigorous documentation procedures for all research.
