Postdoctoral Fellow in the Area of Robustness in Predictive Systems

Employer
NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY - NTNU
Location
Trondheim, Norway
Closing date
1 Feb 2023

About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The position is connected to the project "RICO – Robust Intelligent Control", funded by the Norwegian Research Council and in collaboration between NTNU, SINTEF, TrønderEnergi A/S, SolutionSeeker A/S and Ohmia Charging. The ambition of RICO is to develop new methods for improved robustness of intelligent control systems and predictive models. The successful candidate will be working with particular emphasis on robustness in predictive systems. There is a gap between the research on very advanced methods tested in a controllable and predictable environment and the industrial setting where the environment is neither completely known nor controllable and where information can be scarce, uncertain and of low quality.  This gap can be closed by developing novel methods for robust intelligent control and forecasting to be tested in both controlled environments and in industrial systems, and this is exactly the aim of RICO. RICO will consider a variety of use-cases, and the work developed by the postdoctoral fellow candidate will be tested within these areas:

  • Hydro-optimization for green energy production
  • Energy load forecasting
  • Charging of electrical vehicles

Your immediate leader is the Head of Department.

Duties of the position

  • Develop frameworks and open-source tools for evaluating the robustness of ML time series predictions.
  • Improve ML methods for robust time-series prediction.
  • Interact and collaborate with the RICO team, including PhD students, postdocs, permanent staff, and end-users.
  •  Presentation of results nationally and internationally.
  • Publishing in international journals.

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in artificial intelligence, statistics, mathematics, or a related area.
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  • Good programming skills in Python or Julia, including comprehensive experience with modern machine learning libraries.
  • Published scientific articles in the field of this position.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

Preferred selection criteria

  • Documented experience working with robust ML, robust statistics, or robust control.
