Royal Holloway is looking to appoint an Executive Dean of School of Life Sciences and the Environment.  As a member of College’s Executive Board, the appointed candidate will provide leadership of a School with significant academic strengths and opportunities. In recent years progress has been made on the launch of the new Department of Health Studies, the engagement with the College wide Catalyst Research Themes, the strong development of the partnership with Royal Botanical Gardens, the repositioning of the education in Earth Sciences, and a range of initiatives underway in all five Departments.  Building on the outstanding research, external partnerships, student experience and commitment to diversity already in place, the Executive Dean will facilitate cooperation and interdisciplinary working, particularly noting the academic strengths of the School are drawn from Science, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will have a prominent role in institutional decision-making as a member of the university’s College Executive.

Candidates should bring experience of effective strategic leadership in an academic role, such as Head of Department or a School or College leadership role, and will have made a tangible impact in post.  A track record of research leadership, student engagement and a passion for supporting a transformational student experience is essential.  They will be comfortable providing leadership in both academic and professional service contexts. The post works in close cooperation with the School Manager and her team.

The Executive Dean of School of Life Sciences and the Environment is an open ended appointment.

For more information about the role please contact Professor Ken Badcock (Ken.Badcock@rhul.ac.uk).
