The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute –based in Melbourne –is an independent, internationally renowned medical research facility, with a history spanning more than 96 years. The Institute’s work extends from the laboratory to wide-scale community studies with a focus on diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and associated metabolic diseases. Everything the Institute does is informed by the people who benefit from it, with researchers working in healthcare settings to take science from the laboratory into the community.

The Baker Institute now seeks to appoint a new Director to succeed Professor Tom Marwick, who will be retiring in 2023, after leading the Institute for 8 years. This is an outstanding opportunity for an inspirational and experienced leader to guide the Institute into its next century and to new heights of scientific achievement. The successful candidate will be charged with advancing the Institute’s impact on human health by harnessing technology to personalise medicine and by ensuring its standing as an exceptional scientific, clinical, community and commercial partner. A fluentcommunicatorwith global outlookand expertise, the next Director will be a contemporaryand collegiate leader of excellent intellectual standing and entrepreneurial spirit. They will bring experience in realising high levels of achievementsin complex institutional settings and a commitment to develop and deliver bold and impactful agendas.
