Job description

The post holder will support the development and delivery of technology enhanced learning (TEL) within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy, working with the King’s Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning team. This will include driving and supporting e-learning innovations which improve the user experience and assisting with the training of academic and professional services staff. 

The successful candidate will have a passion for technology enhanced learning and will be able to inspire and drive continuous improvement. The post-holder will act as the main second-line support contact within the Faculty for the College’s virtual learning environment (Moodle), KEATS. 

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract.

Key responsibilities

  • Working with the Vice-Dean (Education) and the Associate Director, Education to support the Faculty’s Education Strategy and develop and implement the Faculty’s TEL Strategy  
  • Managing and leading on a variety of e-learning projects which support the College’s strategy of using technology enhanced learning to drive improvements in learning & teaching and the student experience  
  • Contribute to the Faculty implementation of the College’s TEL strategy, monitoring trends and sharing best practice as appropriate  
  • Developing training material for academic and professional services staff, running training workshops, and delivering ad-hoc deskside coaching for staff in e-learning systems and practices  
  • Producing, editing, manipulating, and integrating a range of electronic teaching materials  
  • Acting as the primary support contact within the Faculty for the College’s VLE 

Research, Analysis, Networks and Wider Work

  • To evaluate the Faculty’s TEL resources and services against College and sector benchmarks  
  • To research and identify e-learning best practice in the College and wider sector, and ensure developed solutions meet and exceed expectations   
  • Act as an effective liaison between the Faculty’s academic staff and technical services across the College, proactively developing a network of contacts and representing the Faculty on College for a  
  • To actively monitor trends, best practice and developments in e-learning and related fields and apply knowledge gained in innovative technical solutions to business problems  
  • To produce and analyse data on e-learning, for example from survey questionnaires or system usage reports  

VLE Administration

  • To act as VLE administrator for the Faculty, managing course structures, access and permissions and ensuring KEATS pages and My Reading Lists are well structured and up to date 
  • To develop and implement appropriate procedures for managing and updating learning material, including managing staff access, quality checks, and the annual rollover process  
  • To diagnose software failures and recommend solutions (in liaison with IT Services ) 
  • To act as second line support to the team of Programme Administrators in VLE administration   

 

Content Development and Project Management

  • To advise on, design, develop and evaluate solutions which meet the needs of the Faculty’s students  
  • To develop, test and maintain e-learning material using a variety of tools and platforms including Adobe Connect, Camtasia, Echo360, Kaltura, MS Teams, Moodle, TalisAspire, Office365, Photoshop, Polleverywhere, Sharepoint, Turnitin and other TEL resources  
  • To maintain an understanding of technical standards and languages including CSS, HTML, SCORM and XML etc. and be able to use them in the implementation and manipulation of e-learning material as appropriate  
  • To work with the Vice-Dean (Education) to identify opportunities for using Technology Enhanced Learning in innovative ways across the curriculum and to work with colleagues on the implementation of projects  
  • To manage and champion relevant projects to completion  
  • To be an active participant in collaborative TEL projects across the College  

Training and Support

  • To deliver a training and development programme for academic and professional services staff in the faculty, including induction provision  
  • To undertake ad-hoc ‘desk-side’ training of staff on relevant software and processes  
  • To develop support materials for staff and students, including screencasts and manuals  
  • To convene and lead a TEL Forum for academic and professional services staff across the Faculty. 

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.  

Skills, knowledge and criteria

Essential criteria  

1.       Educated to degree level or equivalent experience. 

2.       Experience of managing, developing and supporting the use of VLEs and other learning technologies. 

3.       Proactive and authentic approach to leadership, strong experience of line management and creating high performing teams, including motivating staff, performance management and maintaining a positive, proactive culture of continual review and development. 

4.       Experience of designing and delivering training content via workshops, or individually. 

5.       Proven track record of service delivery across an organisation including planning, implementation and on-going evaluation and development of varied initiatives that enable the effective use of technology enhanced learning 

6.       Experience of managing strategic projects, including developing innovative solutions and practical implementation of change. 

7.       Excellent task management skills and proven ability to use initiative, prioritise workloads and respond positively to situations arising at short notice. 

8.       Relationship and customer-service oriented, collaborative and enjoys working with colleagues at all levels across different functions with the ability to build strong networks. 

9.       Able to work individually and as part of a team. 

10.    Evidence of continuous professional development. 

11.    Strong commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace, with a good understanding and experience of web accessibility guidance.
