Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow, Advanced Photonics Nanophotonics and Metamaterials
Location: Highfield Campus
Salary: £32,348 to £51,805
Full Time Fixed Term (12 months)
Closing Date: Friday 30 December 2022
Interview Date: To be confirmed
You will work on the European Research Council Advanced Grant FLEET programme to study the generation, propagation and interaction with matter of topologically complex electromagnetic wave packets. This represents an exciting opportunity to advance optics and electromagnetism in a radically new direction since Hertz, Marconi, Popov and Tesla developed technology for generating, detecting, and communicating with conventional electromagnetic waves.
To be successful you will possess PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a relevant topic with ample experience in laser optics including light sources and instrumentation. Experience in nanophotonics, nanofabrication, computer modelling and/or artificial intelligence will be an advantage.
You will join the world-renowned Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, UK (www.orc.soton.ac.uk) and will work under the supervision of Prof. Nikolay Zheludev FRS NAE (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The successful applicant will be appointed as either Research Fellow (Level 4) or a Senior Research Fellow (Level 5) depending on skills and experience. Please see both job descriptions. Initial appointment will be for 12 months from January 2023 or shortly thereafter.
