Job Summary


The Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time Instructor position for CU's Partnership Program with Western Colorado University to offer a CU computer science degree. This unique position will support the Department of Computer Science and fulfillment of the department's educational mission through teaching. This position is anticipated to start January 2023 or August 2023, with the potential to start a month early as a lecturer for course preparation. The person hired into this position will be CU Boulder faculty but will be living and teaching in Gunnison, Colorado to help build and deliver the CU portion of the Partnership Program.

The Western-CU Boulder Partnership Program – In Gunnison

The Western-CU Partnership program provides students with the opportunity to obtain a CU Boulder degree, while staying on Western Colorado University’s campus in Gunnison, CO. The partnership program is housed in a new $60M dollar facility with stated-of-the-art labs and facilities, allowing the program to concentrate on industry focused projects and project-based learning initiatives. With small class sizes and a state-of-the-art facility, students receive a world-class education.

The Western-CU Partnership program provides a terrific opportunity to work in a university setting and enjoy all the amenities of small town living in the mountains of central Colorado. Located in historic Gunnison, Western is minutes from fantastic mountain biking, skiing, fishing, climbing, rafting, and hiking. The campus has a state-of-the art fitness center, indoor track, pool, and climbing wall. In addition to this wealth of recreational activities, the town of Gunnison maintains its historic tradition as a small ranching town and is home to local art galleries, breweries, and scenic drives. Gunnison has a great little downtown area, a busy Arts Center, a fun Recreation Center with a pool, two hockey rinks, and a new public library. The Gunnison School District is consistently highly rated and after school opportunities abound. We are a short drive (or free bus ride) from the resort town of Crested Butte for when you want the classic ski town experience.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate education. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in the areas of algorithms, databases, software engineering, machine learning, or programming languages. Candidates should highlight their experience in these areas in their application materials. Instructors are responsible for teaching 4-5 courses a year, mentoring undergraduate students, helping to implement and grow the partnership program at Western Colorado University by working with the Director of the Partnership Program and contributing to a good collaboration and community between the CU Boulder Computer Science department and the Computer Science department at Western Colorado University, and providing oversight and input to the undergraduate curriculum of the Partnership Program.


What You Should Know


This is a non-tenure track appointment; the successful candidate will likely be appointed as an Instructor on the Computer Science faculty although appointment as a Senior Instructor is possible depending on experience and qualifications. The position will report to the Chair of the Department of Computer Science at CU Boulder’s College of Engineering and Applied Science in collaboration with the Director of the Partnership Program at Western Colorado University.

What We Can Offer


We can offer a competitive salary in the range of $80,000 - $90,000 based on experience and rank. Relocation expense reimbursement is available within CEAS guidelines.
