Deakin is a Victorian university with a global impact. We are an agile, dynamic and innovative university committed to making a positive impact through our excellence in education, research and innovation and the contributions we make to the wider community.

We understand that our reputation has been built on the dedication and expertise of our staff and we offer a vibrant and diverse working environment with opportunities to grow and develop careers. We believe that a progressive, thriving culture will ensure that people choose to come, and stay at Deakin and contribute to our ongoing success.

As a member of the University’s Executive, the Executive Dean will ensure the delivery of Deakin’s strategic plan – Deakin 2030: Ideas to Impact - through dedicated leadership of the Faculty’s education and employability, research and innovation and University citizenship and engagement.

The Faculty of Arts and Education supports 9,000 students across four campuses and consists of three schools (the School of Communication and Creative Arts, the School of Education, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences), two institutes (the NIKERI Institute, the Alfred Deakin Institute) and the Centre of Future Defence and National Security. Each has a multi-discipline mix of teaching and research offerings and a strong emphasis on research excellence that informs our teaching programs.

This role offers an unrivalled opportunity for an established leader from a relevant discipline with a vision to support the distinctiveness of the University and an understanding of education and research excellence on an international stage. With delegated powers for resource and academic performance, candidates will demonstrate the intellectual, strategic and operational leadership qualities to engage academic colleagues and industry partners in shaping the Faculty as a leading force in Arts and Education.

We value diversity and aim to build an inclusive environment that champions, embraces and respects differences. We support and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people of all cultures, sexual orientation, and genders.
