Position Summary:

Jindal School of Liberal Arts & Humanities (JSLH) of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) is hiring faculty members for Spring 2023 semester. JSLH is looking for potential candidates with the following areas of expertise:

  • Western art history
  • South Asian art history 
  • Art theory
  • Curation

This position is situated in a newly launched interdisciplinary BFA program that integrates artistic training with liberal arts education. The ideal candidate should be able to teach courses that are interdisciplinary in nature and be committed to field-based courses. The one should demonstrate excellent communication skills, a commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring, a strong research profile, and ability to undertake administrative responsibilities.

Eligible candidates who are willing to take up teaching and/or research assignments and are ready to join by January 2023 are invited to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching art history/curation– designing conceptual framework and course curriculum of the program.
  • Developing a research centre – organizing and moderating talks, seminars and events.
  • Mentoring students’ artistic research, investigations, networks, collaborators, sharing insights and interpretations. Editing students’ research paper, helping in publications and introducing structures for writing proposals and concept notes. Taking students on research tours to historical locations, art museums, galleries, exhibitions, fairs and biennales (conceptualizing the tour according to the location)
  • Gallery programming – managing and working towards a permanent collection of art works from the final year BFA students and the visiting artists. Curating exhibitions (including the open studio).
  • Will be responsible for the programming of the BFA gallery and for developing a strong research framework with emphasis on artistic research.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Ph.D. (2022 or earlier) in Art History, cultural studies, or other related fields.
  • Ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement.
  • Prior teaching / industry experience strongly preferred.
