The School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to teach and undertake research in the area of Nutrition and Dietetics.

In addition to promoting the School and maintaining links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities, the appointee will make an independent contribution to the School’s teaching, research, and program development.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design
  • Lead teaching teams to develop effective unit curricula and learning resources (including through unit leadership roles)
  • Adopt new innovation in curriculum design at the unit level
  • Deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery
  • Integrate industry, clinical and/or research practice to teaching
  • Contribute to review of units and courses and implements refinements
  • Implement creative teaching practices to improve student success and engagement
  • Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes
  • Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at unit level
  • Monitor and adapts assessment practices to improve learning outcomes
  • Apply industry, clinical and/or research practice into student learning experiences and resources
  • Support diverse learners by designing accessible and inclusive unit material and practices
  • Design collaborative learning opportunities at the unit level
  • Support the development of junior colleagues
  • Initiate, designs and conducts and may lead productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities
  • Engage collaboratively to develop novel and high-quality research or creative activities
  • Widely communicates outputs to discipline(s) and the community and ensure impact of academic activity in the field and the community
  • Support and may lead in applications for external competitive and other funding, and demonstrates sustained efforts
  • Contribute to the supervision of honours and/or masters students with timely completions and productive, high quality outcomes
  • Provide effective mentoring to honours and / or masters students to support professional and career development and employability
  • Establish/expand industry network to create opportunities for placements
  • Assist the implementation of local citizenship activities and contribute to effectiveness as influencer

Key selection criteria for this role:

  • Accredited Practising Dietitian with Dietitians Australia, with at least 3 years of recent experience
  • Current or recent (within last five years) practice in nutrition and dietetics with a practical background in one or more of the following areas: dietetic management for individual clients; dietetic counselling skills; clinical and/or community dietetics; education, supervision and/or leadership in dietetics. 
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, in a manner that influences, motivates, and inspires students to learn
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and administer assessment regimes and provide feedback that fosters independent learning
  • Experience in developing curricula and/or resources that reflect an understanding of nutrition, dietetics, professional dietetics practice and relevant Accreditation and Competency Standards.
  • Experience in scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design
  • Capacity to undertake research activity in nutrition science or dietetics  that aligns with the School’s research strengths.
  • ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research and teaching
  • capacity to contribute to leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
  • excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues

  • Must be an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), or eligible for membership with Dietitians Australia, and once APD membership achieved, be willing to maintain their APD status
