In 2016, the College of Health Science (CHS) became the ninth college at Qatar University, building on a 30-year success story as a department. CHS is the national provider of high quality health sciences education and research in Qatar, offering undergraduate (BSc) programs in biomedical sciences, human nutrition, public health, and physiotherapy as well as graduate programs in biomedical science, genetic counseling and public health. 

CHS faculty members have excellent opportunities to secure intramural and extramural research funding. Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is major source of research funding, including a variety of student research funding programs. 

The position

The College of Health Sciences is seeking to recruit a qualified candidate for a position in Public Health at the level of Teaching Assistant, starting in Fall 2023.  The appointee will assist faculty members and coordinators of B.Sc. and MPH programs in planning, assessing, and administering the courses.  There will also be some independent teaching, particularly tutorial sessions and student work-groups, in addition to a student advisory role.

Duties and Responsibilities   

  1. Run tutorial sessions for various courses according to specialty and needs
  2. Conduct tutorial sessions and supervise student working groups 
  3. Assist instructors in following up and grading student assignments
  4. Assist instructors and students in securing academic resources/reference materials for courses
  5. Serve as a student advisor and liaise with students administration  
  6. Assist in tasks related to the development and assessment of the Program
  7. Contribute to the research profile of the College through research publications 
  8. Contribute to students’ admission and teaching management 
  9. Contribute to committees that serve the mission of the College and support the operations of the department
  10. Contribute to community service and event outreach
  11. Contribute to placement and evaluation of the undergraduate students at their training sites
  12. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of the Department. 

Required Qualifications and Desired Competencies   

  1. Master in Public Health, health education/ promotion, social and behavioral sciences, or a similar field
  2. Concentration in health education/ promotion is preferred
  3. Teaching experience of at least two years
  4. Research skills and administrative skills
  5. Effective classroom teaching and presentation skills
  6. Familiarity with educational technologies in higher education
  7. Flexibility in dealing with various academic and administrative tasks 
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  9. Ability to communicate clearly with students on an individual basis or in small groups and to liaise with faculty members
  10. Arabic language is preferable
