Applications are invited for a permanent post of an Operations Manager within UCD Estate Services.

Estate Services is responsible for the management and strategic direction of the University's Estate, incorporating planning, development, implementation, operational support and management of the physical resources of the University. One of the unique strengths of the UCD Belfield campus is the unique student experience through colocation of academic, residential and sport and amenity facilities.

UCD's ambition to further enhance the healthy, living and vibrant 24/7 campus growing to over 30,000 students, increase on-campus residence to circa 6,000 students, both Irish and international and develop the overall student experience through the sports and amenity precincts presents both opportunities and challenges to the Unit in the coming years.

Estate Services assumes responsibility for the operation and development of a portfolio of individual functions within the University. As currently envisaged, the relevant functions include University estate and infrastructure management, planning and response to continuity of service provision: Health and Safety; Asset management; Unit Operations; Accessibility to Buildings and selected Service Contract Management; Event planning, coordination, and management: Availability to respond to crisis events as appropriate and be a member of, or lead critical response teams will be required as part of the role.

The Operations Manager is a management role within the Unit. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate, develop and use their management skills. Training support and mentoring will be provided. The successful candidate for this role will be assigned initially a portfolio of responsibility within the Unit, to manage and develop the support services associated with this area in line with the strategic development of the University and a 24/7 dynamic campus.

A key element of this role will be to enhance service delivery to the customer across Estate Services functions, management of the specific function and ensuring seamless interaction with the University community and stakeholders. This role is an opportunity to develop a unique positive experience for students at UCD, creating a distinctive positive reputation and brand for the University Estate and associated activities.

The successful candidate must be motivated by the concept of continual improvement within a dynamic and diverse University sector and have a strong vision and associated values of how to work and develop functional areas within Estates to create a sustainable living and learning community and environment. The Operations Manager will be key to designing, delivering and implementing specific services in support of Unit objectives and vision. The appointee will have a 3rd level qualification and possess significant experience in University Estate Management or a related discipline with an asset or operational management orientation.

They will have staff management experience and the ability to manage a diverse portfolio of responsibilities concurrently across the unit. The successful candidate will be required to liaise regularly with the Estates Senior Management Team (ESMT), UCD Bursars Office, UCD Registry, University Relations, other senior University Academic and Support mangers, and across all aspects of the Estates Team, with particular emphasis on ensuring consistency of delivery of service.

Reporting to the Director of Estates or nominee, the role of Operations Manager will support the ESMT and will be expected to contribute to management strategy and inform decision making throughout the university. The majority of services under the remit of the Operations Manager are provided on a 24hr, 365-day basis, and the necessity to be in a position to respond to this requirement is imperative.
