We are looking to employ a fixed-term Research Assistant Psychologist to support a recent project looking to expand the psychological workforce in the homelessness sector. This project has been funded by Health Education England (HEE), and is running in collaboration with three other Clinical Psychology Programes across the South East of England. The PsychD Clinical programme has recently started to offer a number of placements in homelessness organizations for trainees across the three years of training. The project is now moving to a phase of evaluation of these placements, as well as development of research initiatives. The post would specifically focus on supporting these latter developments, but may be required to support all aspects of this project.

The project will involve working closely with a small number of the PsychD programme team, as well as regularly communicating with the three other Clinical Programmes involved. The post holder will be expected to hold a level of research knowledge and skills that will enable them to work with a degree of autonomy on these research and evaluation initiatives. This will include, but is not limited to, conducting literature searches and synthesizing research evidence, development of research protocols, production of research materials such as information sheets and consent forms, and submission to ethical approving bodies. The post holder will also be expected to lead aspects of research processes, including recruitment, data collection, and dissemination of the outcomes.

The PsychD Clinical team are a welcoming, innovative and a cohesive group with a wide variety of clinical and research interests and expertise. We have an outstanding reputation for applied psychology training and research. The clinical psychology programme is based within the School of Psychology, within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FHMS) at the University of Surrey. The faculty is a leading provider of undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare education, research and consultancy. It has extensive links with local health care providers and is based in a modern, purpose built, state-of-the-art teaching facility on the University of Surrey campus in Guildford.  The campus provides a pleasant working environment with close links to road and rail transport.

The PsychD Clinical Psychology Programme is also advertising another Research Assistant role 0.6 FTE (ref: 086222) so there are two new exciting roles available to support the team in delivering innovative contemporary initiatives on the programme. This is being advertised as a part time role but if you are interested in applying for both roles so as to make this a full time position please state this clearly on your application.

Applicants will typically need to have a 2.1 degree in psychology, be confident in the use of quantitative and qualitative research or evaluation methodologies as well as self-assurance in their written and oral communication skills so that they are able to engage in sensitive topics of conversations, and liaise within and outside the programme. The posts will provide an opportunity to work with a team of applied psychologists with a range of specialist interests and expertise who respect and value one another, are advocates for lifelong learning, and embrace change.
