Department Description:
The Department of Music at the University of San Diego offers an integrated study of music history, ethnomusicology, theory, composition, performance, and education in a small, liberal arts environment. Our professionally active faculty, student ensembles, and guest artists contribute to a lively culture of performance and scholarly inquiry.


Detailed Description:
The Department of Music at the University of San Diego announces a tenure-track position in Musicology at the rank of Assistant Professor. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses in modern, contemporary, and popular music for the core curriculum and LLC/TLC programs; upper‑level undergraduate courses in Western European music history and topical musicology seminars as part of the Music major; and interdisciplinary courses in music, art, sound art, and intermedia that can serve majors in both Music and Visual Arts. Candidates with interdisciplinary specializations in sound studies, critical music and media studies, performance studies, or intermedia are preferred. The selected candidate will be invited to expand our current disciplinary and interdisciplinary offerings in their areas of expertise. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who advance the perspectives of historically underrepresented groups in the study of Music. Mentorship and networking opportunities will also be available for candidates whose interests align with or are connected to one of the following three cluster hire themes: 1) Climate Change and Environmental Justice, 2) Borders and Social Justice, or 3) Technology & the Human Experiences. Job Requirements:
The successful candidates will:
  • Hold an advanced degree, preferably a doctorate or other terminal degree. ABD candidates will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and research, mentoring undergraduates, and fostering a climate of inclusion and diversity.
