Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a full-time Academic Fieldwork Coordinator to serve in the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at the downtown campus in Spokane, Washington. This is a faculty position with a rank of Lecturer. Appointment for this position will begin with Spring Semester of the 2022-2023 academic year (January 3, 2023), and is renewable for subsequent annual appointments on the regular academic year cycle of mid-August through mid-May dependent on performance, need, and funding.

This position has an expectation of availability for a separate 3-month summer appointment. The summer appointment is based on funding and needs of the university, college, and department. An additional adjunct faculty appointment will be issued for start date prior to January 3, 2023.

The Department of Occupational Therapy offers a competitive graduate program for the Master of Occupational Therapy. The MOT program is conducted in a cohort model with 32 students per cohort. The program is completed in 2.5 years. Students complete all academic work during the first two years followed by two 3-month clinical internships. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is primarily responsible for fieldwork level I and II placements for all students.

Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) responsibilities include the following activities: supervise and coordinate all fieldwork experiences for OT students; assist OT students in their professional development and internships; establish and maintain relationships with the on-site fieldwork educators and provide training and support to enhance their student programs; and initiate new contracts with hospitals, clinics, schools and emerging practice sites; complete all AOTA and ACOTE documentation related to fieldwork experiences. Must have a valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various fieldwork sites as required to appropriately support students and maintain relationships with site supervisors.

Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

The Department of Occupational Therapy is located within the College of Health Science and Public Health (CHSPH) on the downtown Spokane campus. As a premier college serving the educational needs of the health care practitioners, CHSPH includes nursing, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, public health and health administration, wellness and movement sciences, dental hygiene, and Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE).

Required Qualifications:
  • Post-professional master of occupational therapy or master of science in occupational therapy degree OR Master’s degree in occupational therapy (MOT or MSOT) completed by start date;
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience
  • Demonstrated experience with administering complex work processes with minimal supervision, under tight timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and persistent when seeking placement leads
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Washington
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills as reported by professional peers
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree in occupational therapy or an entry-level OT degree and a terminal doctorate degree in another health-related field
  • Six or more years of clinical experience in a variety of practice areas including physical disabilities and/or mental health
  • Knowledge of local practice community
  • Experience working with inter-professional colleagues
  • Experience as a fieldwork educator
  • Completion of the AOTA fieldwork educator training

Responsibility / Duty: Oversee day to day operations of the fieldwork program for the Department of Occupational Therapy.
  • Direct, implement, coordinate and supervise fieldwork operations for the department.
  • Direct all fieldwork meetings, including agendas, action items, etc.
  • Direct utilization of facilities and other resources related to fieldwork.
  • Oversee all aspects of fieldwork.
  • Analyze, investigate and resolve situations to ensure student success in fieldwork.
  • Direct tasks and projects to others to meet deadlines and monitor outcomes to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Initiate and implement new fieldwork procedures.
  • Enforce compliance of university, department and fieldwork policies and procedures including relevant collective bargaining agreements.
  • Represent department and fieldwork program within the University and with external entities to maintain relationships that facilitate fieldwork operations.
  • Oversee the identification of appropriate professional development opportunities for OT students.
  • Provide consultation to fieldwork educators and to students while in fieldwork.
  • Oversee all processes related to fieldwork placements; prepare related paperwork and forms.
  • As part of program evaluation, forecast future fieldwork needs; research trends, clinical techniques, and other topical areas. Manage oversight of Fieldwork Advisory Committee.
  • Oversee and host continuing education opportunities for community partners.
  • Oversee and coordinate Fieldwork Advisory Board.

  • Manage and conduct student advising pertaining to fieldwork.
  • Initiate implementation of problem resolution.

Conditions of Employment:
After the initial one-semester appointment (January 3, 2023-May 15, 2023), this position has a 9-month standard academic year contract (mid-August through mid-May), renewable dependent on performance, need, and funding, with an expectation of availability for a separate 3-month summer appointment. The summer appointment is based on funding and needs of the university, college, and department.

If the position start date is prior to January 3, 2023, an additional adjunct faculty appointment will be issued.

The ideal candidate will be available and able to start in the position by January 3, 2023.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
