Job Summary

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology at Columbus State University invites applications for an Assistant / Associate Professor of Criminal Justice. Applicants should be willing and able to teach courses in their area of expertise and contribute to some of the core Criminal Justice courses based on program need. Specialization in the areas of forensics, law enforcement, courts, and social justice is preferred. This mid-career position is expected to begin in August 2023.

Responsibilities

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, engaged learning, advising and mentoring students along with an active research and service agenda commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor. Preference will be given to candidates who can expand course offerings related to his or her specializations for the department and make use of experiential learning. Candidates who have experience with a variety of teaching methods, have knowledge of, or experience working with culturally diverse groups, and have a strong desire to incorporate undergraduate students in their research and/or service activities are preferred. Specializations are open. Normal teaching load is four classes per semester in both introductory and upper level criminal justice courses. Courses may be taught during daytime and evening hours, using a variety of modalities such as face-to-face, online, and hybrid.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate should have college-level teaching experience, evidence of scholarly contributions to the fields of criminal justice and/or criminology and a demonstrated ability to contribute to the intellectual growth of the undergraduate criminal justice program. Candidates are expected to have experience in a tenure-track position in Criminal Justice or related fields.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
