Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 517472), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, with substantial experience in laboratory-based translational research in neuroscience (in particular neuro-oncology) along with a focused track record of publication and evidence of previous collaborative research with basic and clinical scientists in the area.  Post-doctoral experience in basic/clinical studies and a track record of successful competitive research grant applications are essential.

The appointee will conduct independent research and a wide range of basic and advanced laboratory procedures in neuro-oncology.  He/She is expected to supervise research postgraduate students, to train research staff and to manage laboratory activities including but not limited to biobanking, purchasing, budgeting, personnel matters and general organization.  Enquiries about the duties of the post should be directed to Professor Gilberto Leung at gilberto@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary.
