The Work and Organisational Studies (WOS) Discipline within the Business School is a progressive and engaged Discipline and home to over 20 leading international scholars and outstanding professional staff. WOS researchers are particularly active in the fields of human resource management, employment and industrial relations, gender and work, labour regulation and organisational behaviour. We use both qualitative and quantitative research methods and publish in top disciplinary journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Leadership Quarterly Human Resource Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, British Journal of Industrial Relations, and Work, Employment and Society. Our research has national and international significance and policy impact, and informs our teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

There is a strong tradition of teaching excellence and innovation within the discipline, ensuring we expose students to contemporary challenges and cutting-edge research. Several market-leading textbooks in our areas of expertise are written by WOS academics and we offer the top Masters in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations in Australia. We nurture critical thinking and relevant industry knowledge to prepare students for their careers. We are looking for outstanding developing academics with a passion for research and teaching excellence who will thrive in a collegiate supportive and ambitious academic culture. We are particularly interested in increasing our depth of expertise in key Human Resource Management areas such as equity, diversity and inclusion, workforce planning, utilising data insights for HRM, and labour markets and international human resource management. We will consider outstanding applicants with strength in other areas which align with the development of the Discipline.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop, teach and coordinate units of study (i.e. courses) on HR topics for culturally-diverse cohorts of undergraduate, postgraduate and specialist Masters students
  • contribute to the research strengths of the Discipline, through regular publication in top tier international journals and securing research grants
  • supervise higher degree research students
  • be involved in multidisciplinary collaborations with scholars from other Disciplines and Faculties as well as external stakeholders. Both multidisciplinarity and external engagement are highly valued and materially supported at the University of Sydney.

About you

The discipline of Work & Organisational Studies is looking to appoint a lecturer in Human Resource Management who possesses:

  • a PhD in Human Resource Management or closely related field
  • demonstrated experience in, or strong potential to deliver high quality teaching and course development in one or more of the Discipline's core domains
  • an active research program with significant potential for future publications, in the broad domain of Human Resource Management or closely related fields and ideally an established research record of publications in high quality refereed journals
  • the ability to work successfully in a team and a commitment to a collegial approach
  • a commitment to engage with industry, community, government, and professional bodies in order to expand the School's program of professional and industry research collaboration and to develop innovative teaching programs.
