The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant or Research Fellow to play a key role at its Centre for Secure Information Technologies.

The role is part of an international collaborative project investigating security of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), such as robots, electrical grids, healthcare, etc. The post-holder will investigate how to use Digital Twin technologies to analyse unique cyber and physical properties of CPS to improve cyber security.

The post-holder will investigate novel methods for analysing CPS architectures to identify which subsystems are optimal to include in Digital Twin platforms to enable effective security provision. This may include creating formalised procedures to identify which cyber and physical system components, data flows, and physical interactions in a CPS are most valuable to incorporate into Digital Twin models, to support effective security monitoring across cyber and physical components and subsystems. The objective will be to evaluate proposed methods using case studies developed with external academic project partners.

Successful applicants will have responsibilities in independent research, preparation of publications, day to day management of project deliverables, and engagement with partners.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

Research Assistant:

  • 2:1 Honours degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant academic or industrial research experience in cyber-security, threat modelling, formal modelling, or systems engineering. This may be evidenced through industrial experience or academic projects that are clearly aligned with the job description.

Research Fellow:

  • Obtained (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.

In addition to above:

  • At least 3 years of research/work experience (including PhD research) in an area related to cyber-security, threat modelling, formal modelling, or systems engineering.
  • Strong publication record, commensurate with stage of career.

Please note the above are not an exhaustive list. For further information about the role including the essential and desirable criteria please click the Candidate Information link below.

This post is fixed term until 30 November 2023. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
