About The Position

As a Technical Officer within the STEM College, you will be responsible for providing a variety of technical and support services to the Structural Testing laboratories used by staff, students, and researchers to achieve teaching, learning and research outcomes.

This will include overseeing and assisting in the development of university experiments, manufacturing and fabrication of components, minor low voltage electrical wiring, operating structural testing equipment, and equipment maintenance.

The successful candidate will have laboratory or industry related experience in coordinating the maintenance of mechanical/electrical instrumentation and equipment, including cleaning, fault finding and repairing, and ensuring all equipment is maintained in good working condition.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Experience in the use and operation of electrical and instrumentation technologies (dataloggers, pressure and temperature sensors and loadcells etc), including the ability to modify equipment items to suit the experiment activity. 
  • Experience in working with range of different laboratory or industry related mechanical/hydraulic testing equipment and in the manufacture of related jigs and fixtures. 
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting mechanical/electrical instrumentation and associated equipment.   
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in cross-functional teams and with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds.   
  • Proven track record of building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including an understanding and embracing a collaborative and customer focused framework. 
  • Experience in operating and maintaining industrial type or laboratory-based instruments and equipment and related documentation. 
  • Understanding and working knowledge of current OH&S legislation and safe work practices and standards.
