Description
The Thomas lab at NYU AD is looking for a postdoc candidate to work on the interdisciplinary aspect of solid-state NMR and electron microscopy to answer the challenging questions related to chemistry on materials. The postdoc will be working on developing a novel methodology to derive the structures of molecules which have heterogeneous characters. The candidate will be involved in the solid-state synthesis of diverse materials which has applications in energy-related fields and work closely with the NMR and electron microscopy experts in the group to bring novel chemistry. The ideal candidate is somebody who has experience in material synthesis (catalysts, coordination polymers, or inorganic oxides) with sound knowledge in electron microscopy and wants to learn ever-expanding solid-state NMR techniques. The focus of the project is to develop an extended NMR crystallography approach to materials that deviate from the ideal nature due to positional or translational disorders. The candidate has ample opportunity to learn the state-of-the-art dynamic nuclear polarization solid-state NMR.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a related field and have practical solid-state NMR experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential. Good computer programming skills and working knowledge of MATLAB are preferred.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge resources at core technology platform at NYU AD in a collaborative research environment. The NMR centre at NYU Abu Dhabi has an active NMR research community with a DNP SSNMR at 600 MHz (spinning frequency range from 10 kHz to 100 kHz) and 500 MHz solution NMR spectrometer. Moreover, the postdoc will have access to the well-equipped core research facilities of NYUAD.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least two letters of recommendation, all in PDF format. If you have any questions or to know more about the details, please email: bt2354@nyu.edu.
