Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant for Integrated Innovations in Infectious Diseases (I3D) in the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.  Integrated Innovations in Infectious Diseases (I3D), is directed at addressing the research challenges posed by emerging viral diseases.

The vision of I3D is to translate the latest knowledge and tools in basic science and experimental medicine to develop rapidly deployable countermeasures during emerging infectious disease outbreaks. Appointments will be made on a 2 years contract basis <in the first instance, with the possibility of extension – amend as appropriate>.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the trial on time. The RA’s principal role will be to work in general research matters such as recruitment, data collection, data entry and analysis.

Job Description

  1. Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%) - Assist in logistics for clinical research conducted in the division of infectious diseases. This can include liaising with the research office, domain specific review board, investigational medicine unit and various other external research agencies. Helping to coordinate research activities and research staff to optimize. Maintenance of Investigator Site Files, assists in patient screening, obtaining patient consent, follow-up on patient’s visit schedule.
  2. Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (20%) - To assists in actual clinical studies where needed. This will be limited to areas of interest of the staff.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will liaise with the relevant personnel in hospital to smooth the process of recruitment and data collection and will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RA will be able to:

  1. Oversee the general management of the project; 
  2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the study sites;
  3. Undertake the day to day running of the project at the study site, e.g.  Collaborate with team members at the study sites, recruitment, data collection at hospitals/participants’ homes;
  4. To enter data, and analyse data and maintain trial database, as well as assist in preparing both progress and final reports of the project
  5. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  6. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have a degree in a biomedical or life science or related field; preferably with some experience in research;
  2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail; and
  3. have knowledge of basic computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS office, PowerPoint.
  4. have experiences in the clinical areas of research

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
