We are focussed on strengthening community-led organisations, particularly among Indigenous, Māori and Pasifika communities. Our work includes a commitment to co-design and research, maintaining community sovereignty of data and intellectual property, and leveraging university resources to elevate the voice and agency of communities.

Job Description

We are looking for a Research Assistant who has a commitment to social justice and experience in working with multicultural communities, particularly Indigenous, Māori and/or Pasifika communities

Specific elements of our approach include:

  • Prioritising First Nations first, consistent with QLD Government priorities and acknowledged community need;
  • Supporting community-led organisations (CLOs) directly, in order to strengthen their capacity and the self-determination of communities most affected by marginalisation within Logan;
  • Prioritising early childhood education and care (ECEC), as a critical stage of the life cycle whose importance in Logan was further confirmed by our consultations; and community languages, identified by CLOs as central to empowerment and self-determination;
  • Working with community-led organisations, mainstream sector providers, and GU academics, to co-develop resources, tools and guides to promote cultural reform and inclusive practice across the mainstream service sector in Logan, in order to improve the access to, and experience and quality of, services;
  • Collaborating with partners on broader ECEC systems reform in Logan, as a trusted research and evaluation partner;
  • In collaboration with community-led organisations and other partners, developing evaluation frameworks and research outputs, consistent with methodologies of self-determination and data sovereignty (Closing the Gap).

This is a full-time, fixed term (2 years) position based at the Logan Campus.

The full time equivalent base salary will be  Research Assistant range $66,885 - $70,738 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $78,225 - $82,764 per annum. The FTE for this role is negotiable. 


The successful applicant will hold at least a Postgraduate Degree or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.

In addition to the above, you will demonstrate:

  • Quantitative and/or qualitative research skills
  • A commitment to social justice
  • Experience in working with multicultural communities, particularly Indigenous, Māori and/or Pasifika communities
  • A knowledge of the Early Childhood Education and Care sector is desirable
