Assistant Professor / Associate Professor, History of Interiors, Objects and Material Cultures

The Jindal School of Art and Architecture (JSAA) at the O.P. Jindal Global University, invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor (full time) beginning August 1, 2023.

We seek candidates with expertise and research interests in histories/ sociologies of interior environments, objects and material cultures. We are especially interested in candidates who work while primarily focused on the global south is also transnational and comparative in its outlook, who are interested in looking at the investigation of interior environments, objects and material cultures as they figure in the popular imaginations, as forms of the social and whose work intersects with questions of modernity, nationhood, gender, post/decoloniality, caste and class.

Candidates would be expected to teach undergraduate seminars, while also demonstrating a keen interest in developing masters coursework and contributing towards evolving the curriculum. Given the inter-disciplinary nature of pedagogical practices at the JSAA candidates will be expected to teach students from across various design majors, and thus, develop coursework in a manner that highlights both the collaborative and inter-disciplinary nature of the field. Further, candidates will be expected actively pursue research, critical practices and undertake institutional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Art/ Architectural/ Design History, Cultural Studies, Anthropology or any allied field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant college-level teaching experience
  • An established or emerging trajectory for creative and/or scholarly work. 
  • A flexible, integrative, collaborative and inter-disciplinary approach to teaching and research 
  • Candidates who are able to demonstrate a minimum of 5-7 years of active and involved working experience within the field, following their culminating degree will be given preference.
