The Opportunity

The Faculty of Information Technology aims to lead global IT research and education, while offering a range of accredited courses that transform our graduates into highly skilled and sought after IT professionals, equipped to work globally. 

The Department of Human-Centred Computing (HCC) is at the forefront of revolutionising digital technologies yet ensuring that people are central as we refigure our societal, organisational and environmental relationships. To this end, The Department of HCC is looking for a senior academic who can provide leadership in human-centred interaction design.

As the successful candidate, you will take a leadership role in the Department of HCC, playing a prominent role in shaping the teaching and professional activities and policy development of the department.

Specific duties required of a Level E academic may include:

  • Providing strategic direction for interaction design and contributing to current research activities Fostering research excellence through procuring competitive research grants, leading significant research project Providing leadership in teaching, curriculum development and research training, as well as the expansion of the faculty’s HDR program Maintain and broaden collaborative partnerships with external agencies both nationally and internationally Engaging with relevant national and international professional organisations Other duties as directed from time to time

The successful applicant must have a doctoral qualification in human-computer interaction or a design discipline such as architecture, experience design, human-centred design, or visual design, or equivalent accreditation and standing, and be recognised as a leading authority in interaction design.

To be considered for this role, you will have demonstrated experience in establishing a strong collegial program of research capable of attracting substantial external funding. You will have demonstrated international leadership in the relevant discipline, with a reputation for being an expert in the field (e.g., published in top tier journals) and delivering research excellence through procuring competitive research grants. You will have proven innovative and inspiring scholarship including supervision of high-quality PhD students.

With a flexible attitude and responsiveness to diverse staff needs, you will also be able to consult and liaise confidently with senior-level stakeholders. You will have demonstrable experience liaising with external bodies, both national and international, ensuring compliance with numerous frameworks and policies. As a strong inclusive leader who is receptive to feedback, you will strive towards excellence at all times and continue to maintain our positive culture and morale. With a desire to challenge the status quo in support of Faculty and Department interests, you will be passionate and able to maintain high levels of innovation to promote positive change and process improvement.
