Research Fellow A in Biological Mass Spectrometry
Salary: £34,308 to £42,155 per annum
Post Type: Full Time
Closing Date: 23.59 hours GMT on Friday 16 December 2022
A post-doctoral scientist position is available working at the University of Surrey to work on an exciting BBSRC funded project (https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=BB%2FW019116%2F1) to establish the first spatial UK single cell multi-omics facility, SEISMIC. The work will involve launching the new cutting-edge Yokogawa SS2000 instrumentation which can extract single cells, and even subcellular compartments from cells using confocal microscopy and developing downstream mass spectrometry analysis methods for measuring lipids, metabolites and proteins to answer fundamental biological questions.
This is a collaborative project with NPL, GSK, LGC, APHA, Pirbright, Yokogawa Corporation, mass spectrometry vendors and numerous universities and institutes across the UK. It will therefore involve national and international travel. We would like to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist with a PhD in in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline capable of trail-blazing this facility.
Ideally applicants should have published (or be about to publish) in peer-reviewed journals and have expertise in mass spectrometry. Experience of confocal microscopy and cell culture would also be an advantage.
For us it is also important that the candidate is a team player with good communication skills and can contribute to an exciting but nurturing and supportive research environment. Our laboratory is located at the beautiful Stag Hill campus of the University of Surrey in the heart of Guildford.
In addition to salary you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement and excellent training and development opportunities. Benefits package includes pension, childcare assistance and leisure facilities.
