Shape the future. Starting with your own.

Are you an expert in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Computer Science? Whether you’re pursuing a new career path in higher education, returning to work after a career break or looking to develop existing lecturing skills, the University of Southampton is the place to do something truly unique with your expertise.

As one of the world’s top 1% of universities, we know what it takes to create an exceptional student experience. Encouraging our students to challenge conventional thinking, we underpin our exceptional academic courses with a dynamic culture of innovation and research. This is an ethos that we roll out to our staff too, and as such, we enjoy a uniquely collaborative team-spirit in which our colleagues support one another in their endeavours. This progressive approach plays a vital role in maintaining our reputation for shaping knowledge in a wide variety of areas, including our widely-respected programmes. Our Computer Science and Electrical and Electronic programmes are considered some of the best in the country, and with over 1,600 undergraduate and postgraduate students and over 580 researchers from many different subject backgrounds, the culture in ECS is dynamic.

To make the most of this incredible opportunity, you will need to be PhD qualified, or you will have a relevant professional qualification. You will be passionate about working in partnership with the team to share expertise. While some teaching experience would be useful, it is more important that you have great communication skills with the ability to engage students in their learning, be that through group sessions or on a one-to-one basis. As long as you can bring a real passion for the field to our department, we will help you develop your presentation skills.

In turn, we will help you find the ideal work/life balance, with flexible working hours and onsite childcare facilities. Committed to tackling gender inequality, we are Athena SWAN recognised, as we are determined to address the under-representation of women in Engineering.  With a generous benefits package that also includes a contributory pension scheme, competitive holiday allowance, subsidised health and fitness facilities, a cycle-to-work scheme and a range of discounts, this is a place where you are sure to excel.
